POTD - Photoshop - Before & After Techniques

I have pretty much no experience with textures or grungy looks. This is my first try and I had no idea what I was doing. So I'm looking for opinions and cc of any kind on this and some tutorials would be extra nice!! ;O)

No new photos but here is the original.
This is the photoshopped version. I erased her skin back a lot because otherwise she looked like she had tattoos all up and down her arms.
Here's another, again not a new photo, but this is the original.
Here is the photoshopped version. I didn't know if I should have erased more of her jacket or not I guess I need a crash course and what to do and not to do. But please cc anything! I'd like to get a better idea and learn how to do this better for seniors. They love stuff like this!

LOL at myself! When I read that Senior love this kind of stuff, for seriously like 3 seconds, I thought you were talking about senior citizens!! Oh my, good thing my DH didn't marry me for my brains! (inside joke, DH says this all the time, ENTIRELY joking though, he's really a great guy!) These look great! Love the look

Wow, those are so cool. I love the one on the wall. I havent' played much with textures either. However, I did notice that your brush looks like a hard edge when you erased on your daughters skin. Try using a feathered edge, this should blend better.

I think you did a great job. I really like the first pic the best. I just would have erased more off her hair. Other than that I love it.

WOW, I LOVE that last photo--it's so dramatic and different than the original. I would like to see it with more of her coat erased back in...now it looks like she was standing there when they painted the wall and they painted her as part of it! ;) Also in that last photo, I wonder if you could lighten up the window on the left to look like a window--I thought it was some weird black rectangle until I compared it to the original. But wow, that last one is great!

Wow . . . looks like a lot of work! ;) But you did an awesome job, especially considering this was your first try. Great work!

I really like the 4th one--great job on this. I think I like your first photo better than the grunge. Just my opinion, but I just like the sweetness of this one. Your 3rd photo, with the wall, seems to lend itself better for grunge. A really nice tutorial on grunge for senior pix is one on my friend's site, www.kimikreations.blogspot.com She's a pro!

I think these are very funky and cool. I like them a lot. The only thing I would say is that the skin tones look too orange to me on the PS'd versions.

Love them both! You did a great job!
